The Guinness book of records has lost track of reality I must confess. It doesn’t know naadaa!! There’s a mystery that the world has been oblivious to. The mystery is this: How is Nigeria still surviving despite all the wicked rape and stealing that we have been aware of? Mind you, for any 1 billion uncovered, there’s a 15 billion well covered. That the system is still operating in some sense at all, is one of the mysteries that Guinness book of Records should have noted.
The other day, a former Group Managing director of NNPC, Abubakar Lawal Yar’Adua, was caught stealing at the “village square”. He was caught with basically stealing UK£890 thousand pounds to buy a house in the UK. Please ask him his salary as the GMD of NNPC? I would be surprised if he told you at all. He never denied that he bought the house. He never denied anything. He just took it casually. He said he didn’t know it was a crime. Do I blame him? Naah!! If you have been following this blog, you would understand why NNPC is beyond redemption.
In the same vein, there was a report of over 2 trillion naira (close to $5 billion dollars) that NNPC just swallowed in 2013 alone. We are talking about the “uncovered money” remember?, however, when you factor in the “covered money” you would wonder how this country has been surviving at all. We have gotten to the stage where it’s weird to understand how sane people would be stealing with mindless abandon.
Just this morning, it was announced that the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Nnamdi Okonkwo, has been re-arrested for another US$153 million dollars that he collected from Deziani. Initially, this same gentleman was arrested for laundering US$115 million dollars for Deziani. That means that based on what has been uncovered; we’ve seen him laundering the total sum of US$268 million dollars for Deziani. I leave you to imagine the money that has been “well covered” by both of them. Kilode? Obu gini? Me afaru? Na wetin? And the system is still trudging on?? This is wonderful!!
If money could be laundered like this, why wouldn’t anyone want to be part of Government? Why? The only good thing that can come out of this investigation is if Nnamdi okonkwo is made to refund that money (the uncovered sum). If he couldn’t, then, it is a waste of time. People cannot be afforded the luxury of going to the Prison with the mindset that their billions are still intact. It can’t work.
Again, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is sweating profusely as we speak. A court ruled that she must give details of 30 trillion naira alleged to be wasted within the Period she was the finance Minister. Though Okonjo-Iweala is saying that she seized being the minister by May 29th 2015 and any day after that shouldn’t apply to her. I agree with that assertion, but she has to give the account, before that day, that concerns her. She cannot just wave her hand up in the air and declare a no-show. I pray she gives a detailed account to rebut this. This is not looking too good for her and her reputation.
I can go on and on…The point is this: How come Nigeria is still standing? I agree that this mindless corruption has brought total dislocation and poverty to the system. However, we need to agree that no country, except Nigeria, would stand this corruption stories without an explosion. No country, apart from us, can absorb this mindless looting and still be standing as a country. Nigeria deserves a place in the Guinness book of Records.
The mere fact that the mystery that still sustains Nigeria has never been acknowledged shows the biased nature of the Guinness book. For now, I am on strike until someone re-write the wrong…Ewolewoo!!
