Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is another study in how Principle is thrown into the bin. I had thought that when you mention “world bank” everyone would stand up in awe of anyone holding an important position of a ”Vice president” of that esteemed institution. However, she showed us that it is all just name and nothing more.
Let’s cast our mind back to the fanfare that heralded Dr Iweala’s appointment by the then President Obasanjo in 2003. We were all told that Eldorado would arrive in Nigeria and everything would be fine because of the Genius called “Ngozi”’ from the World Bank. I can still recall that late chief Gani Fawehinmi(of blessed memory) took the federal Government to court because Ngozi okonjo Iweala demanded that she be paid in dollars. The case was dismissed because we needed a ‘messiah’ from the World Bank.
Things started happening among others, as it was claimed she would help us to clear our debt. She made debt relief a cardinal mantra of her goal in Government. Magic, magic, magic, we were told sometime in 2005(or was it 2006?) that our debt has been paid off. So many accolades came from far and near. Everyone was outdoing each other in championing Ngozi’s clout, wizardry and financial sagacity in achieving such feat. This is 2015, we now know better!! Whatever deals were done then came into the open as normal Government pattern of turning a cat into a lion. The more you look…..People just chopped and clean mouth…Dias Goduooooo!!!!
The manner in which OBJ disgraced Ngozi out of his administration is another issue to be studied in acts of public ‘’Shanking”. She was just removed from finance ministry overnight and a junior minister took over. Did she resign, Naah!!! She accepted the position of foreign minister even when she knew she was being dragged to the exit door. Since she couldn’t dignify herself with a resignation nor read OBJ sign, she was just extracted out. Just like that!!
Then came GEJ, who invited her and she came again. No shame, No principle, naatin!! I had thought the initial experience would have thought her some lessons, especially coming from the world bank . However, she reckoned that being Nigeria’s finance minister is far more “profitable’’ than being the world bank Oga. I don’t blame her joor!! With the kind of money flying around in Government, there’s no reason in tying oneself to one ‘’big office with plenty grammar” in New york. E nor gel o!! She jumped in full time and ,as it happened the other time too, she failed spectacularly.
A finance minister + coordinating economic team lead of the government who couldn’t tell us, in factual terms, the total amount coming from NNPC on crude oil sales. She couldn’t corroborate the real amount spent on so called fuel subsidy. Just a simple question on that to her and the grammar would confuse you. Ask her of the savings that accrued due to the initial deregulation of diesel oil, kerosene and the partial deregulation of petrol, She would attack you as a political antagonist. She has learnt the act of lying with passion. That is a dangerous attitude to a system like ours.
She has shown us that in her, education doesn’t matter, principle doesn’t matter, ethics should be thrown out of the window. What matters is what is inside the pot. Once the pot has gbanga soup with enough bush meat and ‘’orishirishi’’ then nothing else matters. Abuse and insult all you can, na the meat be my own. She should know that the impression of her by the man on the street is not different from the impression we used to have of “Umana umana”. The more you look, the less you see..
Madam Ngozi, I hail o!!! I still remain the quiet fellow…Ewolewooo!! #Ewolewoo!!
